Contemporary/ Lyrical
Ages 8 and up
45 minutes a week
Lyrical, like most forms of dance, is grounded by an extremely strong ballet foundation, while contemporary incorporates modern dance with ballet. It is usually performed to music that is slow or down beat, melodic and sweet-sounding. It is a very broad form of dance which includes many dynamic, fast paced, and sometimes fast pieces. These two genres challenge students to use technique along with acting ability to interpret music and express emotion. Emphasis is placed on connecting a student’s movement and emotions, in an attempt to show the meaning of the music. It is a very passionate and emotional style of dance which tells a story through every movement made. For the beginning student, lyrical classes will focus on building, expressive, subtle, and dynamic emotion combined with a solid ballet technique. For the more advanced dancer, the focus will be on much more intricate technique such as turns, fouettes, jumps, extensions, at the same time connecting to your emotions. Come express yourself in lyrical class!
Ballet and Jazz classes are highly recommended
